The Role and Responsibilities of the Governing Body:

The Governing Body does not manage the school. That is the role or Gill as Headteacher, and as Governors we aim to support her in doing this. The Governing Body have three main areas or responsibility:

Setting vision, ethos and strategic direction, engaging stakeholders and ensuring statutory duties are met;

Holding heads to account for teaching, achievement, behaviour and safety, challenging and strengthening leadership, contributing to school self-evaluation;

Ensuring financial solvency and probity with effective management of financial resources, including the Pupil Premium, to raise standards.

They are also responsible for specfic actions such as ensuring that there is a procedure In place for handling complaints; approving the school budget; and appointing the headteacher. In addition to these statutory responsibilities, Governors do a wide variety of other things, either through formal committee activity or through personal involvement with the day-to-day life or the school. As we want Woodfield to be the very best, an ‘outstanding school’, our task is to help Gill and her team of staff make this happen.

Composition of the Governing Body

We are very fortunate to have a committed and very hard working Governing Body, where people come from a wide variety of backgrounds, with a wide variety of skills.

The Governing Body at Woodfield is made up of representatives from a number of different areas;

Staff Governor (Teacher)
Parent Governors
Local Authority Governors
Co-opted Governors

Clerk to the Governing Body

How We Work

The full Governing Body meets once a term, throughout the academic year. In addition to this  the are 3  committees.

a) Finance

This commiltee seeks to ensure that the school operates the financial best practice, providing value for money.

b) Teaching and Learning

This committee seeks to ensure that the school provides a relevant and challenging curriculum, where all pupils progress towards their individual targets.

c) Safeguarding

This committee seeks to ensure that the whole school community, pupils and staff are safe in all ways in the school environment.

All of the Governors sit on one of the committees, relevant to their skills, knowledge and interest. Each committee meeting is fully recorded and then is reported back to the full Governing Body meeting.

In addition to the committee reports, the full Governing Body meetings receive detailed reports from Gill as Headteacher, discuss key issues, approve policies, make decisions and challenge the school as appropriate
